In simple terms, the failure of large diameter pipelines, water or waste water (300mm diameter and above) can be a catastrophic event. As a case study, the City of Ottawa, Canada recently installed an AFO system subsequent to a 48” PCCP pipeline failure. Shelley McDonald, Manager of Infrastructure for the City of Ottawa is co-authoring this paper to outline the reasons for their use of AFO to manage critical water transmission assets in the City of Ottawa.
