Biographie du conférencier

Steve Murphy is a graduate of Ryerson Polytechnical Institute (1984) and is the Supervisor Development Construction for The Regional Municipality of York. He is currently a member of the Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA) Directors Board, Co-Chair of the OPWA Right of Way Management Committee and TAC – Public Utility Management Subcommittee. He is also a member of the CSA Z247 Technical Committee and the American Public Works Utility and Public Right of Way Committee. Steve has obtained a vast amount of knowledge throughout his 25 year career at York Region in a variety of design and construction positions. For the past 10+ years Steve’s has focused primarily on the utility design review and approval, utility construction inspection, utility relocation coordination for Region Capital Road, Environmental Services and Bus Rapid Transit projects as well as negotiating utility agreements.

As part of the Province of Ontario’s “Big Move” vision The Regional Municipality of York has been delivering a vivaNext Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) program since provincial funding was received in2009. Utilizing a Design/Build procurement model York Region has completed 2 of the 4 funded sections of the program with the 3rd project nearing its completion. Through lessons learned in the initial projects innovations in utility coordination were developed and implemented to manage the utility risk along the old, congested road corridors in which the BRT was and is currently being be constructed. This presentation will speak to the utility relocation coordination innovations from the early days of the vivaNext program to the present.
